Early morning, drive to visit BANTEAY SREI, a unique temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. This is the fabled pink temple of women, so called because it is made of pink sandstone & considered a tribute to the beauty of women. Its small size, delicate carving and remarkable state of preservation make Banteay Srei one of travelers' favorite temples.
Head to Kbal Spean, one of Cambodia’s earliest Hindu sites and refreshingly different from the other Khmer monuments. Take a 3-kilometre trek through jungle to appreciate the scope and beauty of Kbal Spean. The trek ends at the unique ‘River of 1000 Lingas’, a riverbed featuring stone carvings of the Hindu Gods, the animals (frogs, cows) and phallic symbols of fertility. Learn about the history of Hinduism in Cambodia while exploring this unique river.
In the afternoon, Start at ANGKOR THOM, where you will explore BAYON TEMPLE. One of the few Buddhist temples in Angkor, which is famous for some 200 striking colossal humane faces carved in 54 stone towers and impressive bas reliefs.
Then stroll to ELEPHANT TERRACE, which is over 350 meter long and is carved with a long line of elephants. The terrace was used by Angkor's king Jayavarman VII as a platform from which to view his victorious returning army.
The best time to visit Kbal Spean is from July to December when the river is in its best shape. In the other times of the year, the water dries up quickly so the scenery might not be as beautiful as it is.
